Poultry Pigmentation
- Poultry products are highly influenced by how the
consumer perceives the final product: the first
factor is colour.
- It is said that we eat with our eyes
- Good pigmentation of chicken skin/shanks and egg
yolks suggest healthy animals
- Good colour levels are highly desired by consumers
in Australia
- The quality pigment products of Jabiru will enable
optimum pigmentation to be achieved in the most
cost-effective manner
Why
use pigments?
- Pigments in common ingredients used for feed in
Australia do not normally contain sufficient
carotenoids to give the colours of egg yolks or
skin/shanks that are desired by consumers
- For example a corn-based layer diet will produce
eggs with a fan score of about 7-8, which is a pale
yellow
- Supplementation of these diets with pigments will
allow the required colours to be achieved
- Colour is best established by application of good
quality stable pigments
